948 ETOUFFEE

.

Well it had to happen eventually. I mean after all, at The Lodge we've had Italian Night, Greek Night, French Night, Pork Roast Night, Lasagna Night, Bar-B-Q Night, October Fest, Fish Fry's, Luau's, Cook-out's, Cook-in's, Pot Luck & maybe even Baloney Night plus only God knows what else.

So, what's left ???

Our current ER was itching for some good ole home cooking & he, being from the bayou's of Louisiana, came up with an idea to indulge in some Etouffee, made straight from his secret recipe.

What is Etouffee you say ??? The word literally means "smothered" or "suffocated". According to Wikipedia: Étouffée or etouffee is a Creole dish typically served with shellfish or chicken over rice, similar to gumbo, very popular in New Orleans and in the bayou country of the southernmost half of Louisiana. The base of an étouffée is a blonde roux (made with butter & flour). It is usually seasoned with onions, green bell pepper and celery (a.k.a. the holy trinity), garlic, and salt. (+ cayanne pepper at the descretion of The Chef). This etouffee will include shrimp. That sounds yummie !.

It's ALL YOU CAN EAT on Saturday, March 1st for just $12.00 & that includes Gumbo !!! Serving time is 6:00 - 7:30PM. Stay tuned for ticket information. (Lodge calendar does not show this event in the March 1st box).

P.S.
The Chef has promised not to Use the Heat but you have the option to "Kick it up a Notch" or two or three.

Latin Rhythms an unqualified success

Over 120 people enjoyed a wonderful dinner of savory mojito pork and chicken, killer mojitos, fabulous cigars, beautiful art and decorations, personlized palm readings and of course a great band playing Latin favorites. The event was held to raise money for the Joe Ortiz travel fund and to show our appreciation to Joe for his upcoming appointment as President of the Florida State Elks Association. There are a lot of people to thank for making the evening a success, but none more than the party-goers. It was a very special evening and it was just great to see so many Elks from other lodges enjoying the fun. A special thanks to Tom Pezzino and Jefry Biehler from the South Miami/Coral Gables Lodge and also to Mario Catalano and Don Kaminska from the North Miami Lodge for simply donating the price of a ticket even though they couldn't be there. That perfectly illustrates the true nature of our motto: Elks Care - Elks Share. I'll post the numbers at a later date when we're done counting, but the committee and me are very gratified with the show of support for this event and for Joe Ortiz. Thanks everyone!

Are you ready to salsa?

Enjoy hot Latin music, mojitos, food, art, cigars and a fortune teller on January 26 and support Joe Ortiz as he prepares to become the State President.

Lina Lopez made the incredible flyer. Now that we know she's this talented, we may have to draft her into service for future events. :-)
